Male Yeast Infection Treatment: Over the Counter Medications for Candida in Men

Male yeast infection treatment is much the same as that for women. And, as women generally use over-the-counter medications, so can men. Find out here which ones and why...
A yeast infection is most often caused by the Candida albicans yeast-like fungus that naturally lives in our bodies, male and female alike.
However, your body's beneficial bacteria (85%) vastly outnumbers the bad bacteria (15%). This means that the Candida is normally kept under control so that they do not overgrow into yeast infections.
But it is a delicate balance between good and bad bacteria. And, unfortunately, there are circumstances in which this balance can be upset so that the good bacteria can no longer keep the Candida albicans under control.
The main underlying circumstances that can cause such a situation are; beneficial bacteria depletion, immune system deficiency, high blood sugar, hormonal imbalance, and certain drug therapy.
Most females treat their Candida infections with over-the-counter (OTC) antifungal medications. And there is no reason why men cannot treat their infections in the same way...
The problem with male yeast infections, though, is that the symptoms can take a good time to show up so that, by the time they do, the infections can be well advanced, making them much harder to eliminate.
And since the symptoms of yeast infections can also be similar to other problems it means that these, perhaps more serious, problems are not being properly treated.
So you first have to be sure that what you are treating is, in fact, a yeast infection. Based on some studies, nearly 66 % of women who use OTC medications do not have yeast infections at all! There is no reason to suppose that males are any different.
Therefore, before opting for OTC medications, it is best to get a proper diagnosis from your doctor. Once a yeast infection has been confirmed you can then decide, after discussion with your doctor, on which over-the-counter medication would be suitable for your particular case.
Male Yeast Infection Treatment: Typical Over-the-Counter Medications
Over-the-counter treatments are usually antifungal drugs in the form of creams, ointments, sprays, powders, tablets, etc. Here is a typical range of drug-based yeast infection treatments available over the counter...
- Monistat
- Femstat
- Gyne-Lotrimin
- Mycelex
- Vagistat
Although many (probably most) OTC medications are obviously marketed towards women, they are equally as effective on men since it's the same Candida fungus being targeted.
Talk to the pharmacist and let them know of any allergies you may have. You should also let them know if you are using condoms, your partner a diaphragm, or both, as a method of birth control, since some drugs can weaken the latex. They will then advise on the most appropriate medication.
OTC medications are typically sold in 1 day, 3 day and 7 day formulas. The important thing to remember is to ensure that you finish the course of whatever formula you are recommended.
After treatment, should the infection still persist, or you suffer from frequently recurring infections, you should refer back to your doctor. This is because there may be an underlying condition that needs to be addressed first.

The Most Essential Beauty Treatments

Beauty treatments constitute a huge industry, and for first-timers it can certainly seem just a bit exclusive. There are hundreds of different treatments out there, made even more confusing by being separated by brand. Then there's treatments which deal with extremely small areas compared to those offering very general results. For a newcomer it can all seem more than a touch confusing, so here are some must-try treatments to start you off.
Massage and Aromatherapy
These two often get packaged together, so there's no harm in linking them here. Massage is mainly a way of relieving stress and muscle tension, but this carries a number of benefits in and of itself. You'll get a sturdier immune system, less propensity for anxiety and depression, and a more comfortable sleep at night.
All in all, these treatments are there to relax you and be enjoyed. They don't alter your body, though they do rejuvenate it and give you a far more rested and confident disposure. We all know that something like that can make all the difference, so it's no wonder most spas and salons offer this.
Hair Removal
Unwanted hair is the bane of many a woman's existence, especially for those who aren't fortunate enough to be blonde. Applying hot wax strips at home can just get stressful, and there's plenty of salons out there offering very comprehensive treatments.
Wax strips? Laser treatment? Threading? These are all popular methods, and can be carried out as painlessly as possible by a professional. They'll be able to offer you some long term results for this common problem with plenty of variety in how you get it done. If you're looking for a treatment to get you started, this is certainly one of the most common.
Facials
Get a nice deep clean in your pores, scrub off any dead skin and keep your face pleasant and hydrated. A facial can truly reap some amazing results for a surprisingly quick treatment, and it's a relaxing one to boot.
Book one now and you'll have a professional identifying your skin type and the best substances to apply to it. These treatments are a great way to draw attention to your natural beauty with a rejuvenated appearance, so don't be put off by the chemicals.
Hands and Feed
We are, of course, referring to pedicures and manicures. You can expect to have a pumice taken to remove dead skin from your feet, or even get fish to eat it if you're in a pricier area (it tickles, but isn't as unpleasant as it sounds!). Having your nails trimmed and polished is a quick way to add a little more colour and sharpness to your appearance, so this is another great way to get started on treatments.

Choosing A Good Alternative Treatment For Acne: 3 Questions You Should Ask

You can find hundreds of acne treatment products at your local store. The problem is that choosing which product to use is not as simple as clapping your hands. If you are fed up by the ineffectiveness of those over the counter acne treatment products, then you should consider using a good alternative treatment for acne. Even so, there are some varieties of alternative treatment for acne that you can use. Here are 3 questions you should ask before spending your hard-earned dollars on a good alternative treatment for acne:
1. Does It Tackle The Root Cause Of The Problem?
Some alternative treatments work only as topical treatment for acne. This is not a good way to cure your acne completely. If you want to cure your acne completely, you need to tackle the root cause of the problem. A good alternative treatment for acne will give you a whole treatment from inside out. That's because the root cause of your acne is inside your body, not outside.
2. Does It Emphasize On The Importance Of Detoxification?
Toxic accumulation is the culprit of most acne problems. It can be said that the root cause of your acne is toxic accumulation. Therefore, a good treatment for acne should emphasize the importance of detoxification. It must have a working system to detoxify your body from toxic substances that have been accumulated within your body for years. As a result, it must have an effective dietary plan to help you eliminate the toxins from your body completely.
3. Does It Acknowledge The Unity Of Mind, Body, And Soul?
You have a mind, a body, and a soul. You need these things in order to live your life fully. Without unity of mind, body, and soul, you can't live happily on this planet. Knowing this unity, it is natural that one part will affect other parts within you. For instance, if you regard acne as only the problem of your body without acknowledging the connection of the mind and soul, then you will only work on one part of yourself. Thus, complete and permanent healing is impossible. A good alternative therapy for acne will acknowledge the unity of mind, body, and soul and offer to solve the problem on all parts of your body. Some call this a holistic approach.
Those questions will help you to find the best alternative treatment to cure your acne.

ADHD Drug Treatment and Academics

Many patients, parents and providers have questions about the academic benefits brought about by the use of childhood ADHD medication. Practical questions such as whether continued stimulant medication use results in permanent cognitive improvement or deterioration have been difficult to answer but medical studies have provided some insight into questions such as these.
Animal studies have suggested that stimulant use during pre-adolescence may predispose individuals to problems with motivation as adults but there are not many human studies looking at the question of ADHD drug treatment and academic improvement. One of the studies that tried to answer this question is the Multimodal Treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Study (MTA).
The MTA study occurred at multiple sites and was designed to evaluate the short and long term benefits of ADHD treatment. The study included nearly 600 children, ages 7-9, who were randomly assigned to one of four treatment options. The treatment options included:
  • Intensive medication management alone;
  • Intensive behavioral treatment alone;
  • A combination of both; or
  • Routine community care (the control group).
The MTA treatment lasted for 14 months. After the fourteen months, the children were referred back to their community providers. Some of the children continued to receive treatment. Others discontinued their treatment or changed it, based on their individual situation. All the study participants were invited, by the National Institutes of Mental Health, to return to the MTA clinics every one to two years for a check-up of their ADHD symptoms and for an evaluation of their level of functioning.
The initial results of this study indicated that the best treatment for ADHD included a combination of medication and behavioral treatment but after eight years the MTA researchers found that there were no differences in symptoms or functioning among the kids assigned to the four different treatment groups. Children who were no longer taking medication at the eight-year follow-up were generally functioning as well (or as poorly) as children who were still medicated, raising questions about whether medication treatment beyond two years continues to be beneficial or needed by all.
Sixty percent of children who had been medicated during the trial were no longer on medication eight years later. As a whole, the ADHD kids were found to have more academic and social problems compared with their peers who did not have ADHD. They also had more conduct problems including run-ins with police, as well as more depression, and psychiatric hospitalizations.
On the positive side, the kidswho had responded well to any treatment and maintained their gains for two more years tended to be doing the best at eight years. The MTA researchers suggested that ADHD treatments might work more effectively if they were adapted to the specific symptoms of individual children taking into account the changing needs of children and teenagers. The researchers also suggested that this type of approach might be more acceptable to patients and families and, over the long run, might provide better continued treatment and outcomes.
Understanding how drug treatment or other treatments affect people with ADHD in the long term is complicated. Individual genetic and environmental factors will affect treatment response and long term benefits and detriments. Understanding the interaction of specific treatments, genetics and the environment will require more study. Though there is little disagreement, in the medical community, about the long term negative effects of not treating ADHD. There is less agreement about how best to treat ADHD symptoms in the long term and about which treatments provide the longest lasting benefits with the fewest risks.

Today's Acne Scar Treatment Methods

One of the unfortunate consequences of acne, is the scarring that can come about after you have suffered from the severe form of it. You can also cause scarring to occur if you forcibly pick and scratch the affected area. Of all the varied types of acne scars that one might get, most of them can be treated with good results. The first thing to keep in mind is that prevention is one of the best acne scar treatment methods that will work. This means that you should avoid picking or squeezing the pimples and also keep your hands away from the inflamed acne whenever possible. Squeezing of acne pustules forces infected matter to permeate deeper into the skin. This starts a cycle that results in more inflammation as well as scarring. You should avoid this activity at all costs.
There are several acne scar treatment options that are available for you to try, after a consultation with your doctor. These different treatment modes can last from 15 minutes to one hour. The healing time after a procedure can take anywhere from 15 minutes to a number of months. Some of the post treatment effects on the skin that are commonly experienced include dryness, scabbing, flakiness, redness, swelling, uneven skin tone and bruising.
The following acne scar treatment methods should be discussed with your doctor, in order to arrive at the most suitable option for you.
Dermabrasion for instance, is one acne scar treatment that works on the scars that are close to the skin surface. Damaged skin is scraped away using a medical tool that has rotating diamond-edged wheels. A newer option is known as laser resurfacing. In this procedure, it is much easier to control the penetration depth with a laser as compared to dermabrasion.
When dealing with milder acne scars, chemical peels are ideal. These peels involve the application of different acid types. The top layer of skin which is the most affected, can then be removed. This in turn will expose an inner, smoother surface. For deeper acne scarring, a punch technique is used. This process involves the removal of the scar through minor surgery. At that point, skin grafting and suturing is performed.
Subcision is a process that is used to treat deep rolling scars. It involves breaking up the scar tissue underneath the skin surface, resulting in the formation of a blood pool under the scar. This blood clot helps in the formation of connective tissue beneath the scar, making it level with the surface. If further smoothing of the skin is needed, chemical peels or microdermabrasion is employed.
Finally, collagen fillers have been used as an acne scar treatment to fill in the furrows and fissures. This will render the scars much less noticeable. Whatever procedure you and your physician decide upon, take comfort knowing that many patients have improved their outward appearance and increased the quality of their life by utilizing one of the aforementioned acne scar treatment methods.

How Is Leukemia Treated?

Leukemia is a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. There are two types of leukemia, chronic and acute, which are treated differently and have different symptoms. Acute leukemia rapidly progresses and needs immediate, aggressive treatment. Chronic leukemia can take months or years to show symptoms and may not need immediate treatment but will require ongoing monitoring.
Chemotherapy utilizes chemicals to treat the cancer. It causes many side effects such as hair loss, nausea and decline of the immune system. The complete course of therapy can be from two to five years including maintenance. This is the most common form of treatment for leukemia with the desired result being total remission. Even without symptoms, ongoing monitoring must occur to guard against relapse.
Radiation therapy is another form of treatment. It is painless and in low doses causes very few side effects. Where the radiation is concentrated and the exposure levels will determine the side effects, if any, and the severity of them. Damage to the skin, swelling and infertility are among the possible side effects.
A bone marrow transplant is an effective way to prolong the life of cancer patients. It is, however, a risky surgery and requires a donor which can be difficult in attaining. These surgeries should be performed at state of the art hospitals specializing in cancer treatment. This surgery has a high mortality rate and is therefore used only in life threatening cases.
Immunotherapy is a means to stimulate the immune system so the body can attack the cancer cells. This type of treatment is still in its early stages and continually under development. It is believed that this type of treatment may prove less harmful than chemotherapy or radiation therapy and may someday supplant these treatments as a method for treating cancer.
Long term effects of leukemia treatments may cause anemia. This side effect can be treated by blood transfusions or platelet transfusions. There are risks with transfusions but it is believed transfusions will help reduce the threat of additional complications such as heart attacks. Doses of antibiotics are also generally prescribed to leukemia patients to help counteract the danger of infection cause by declined immune system or treatment side effects.
There are currently almost 200,000 people in the United States diagnosed with leukemia and an estimated 35,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year. It is the leading cause of death for people under the age of 20. There are many treatment facilities throughout the United States specializing in cancer treatment. Early diagnosis, aggressive treatment, and monitoring will help prolong life and increase chances of a person going into remission.

Does Aloe Vera Acne Treatment Actually Work In Dealing With Acne?

If you really want to wipe acne off your skin, then it is in your best interest to keep your options open. Although the popular products are the ones that you can easily buy at your neighborhood pharmacy, the sad fact is that some of these products are not good for your skin in the long run. This is the reason why using natural and healthy options like aloe vera can be your best option in treating your annoying acne breakout problem.
You first have to be aware that acne is caused by multiple factors. There are some individuals that get acne because of hormonal imbalance. This is usually the case if you are experiencing puberty or menopause or when you are menstruating. In some other cases, it could just be as a result of oil building up on your skin which blocks your sebaceous glands. The bacteria in these glands multiply rapidly and cause your skin to become inflamed - this shows itself in form of pimples on the surface of the skin.
Aloe Vera Acne Treatment To The Rescue!
I am sure you already know how an aloe vera plant looks like. It is similar in a way to a cactus plant and it grows in so many places in the world most especially warm and sunny climates. Don't be fooled by the ordinary looking appearance of the plant - the juice inside the leaves have lots of medicinal uses. This is the reason why this plant has been used for centuries now.
The juice in aloe vera has two properties that make it very useful in dealing with your acne problem and they are:
Antibacterial - since we already know that pimples usually results because of an increase in bacteria in the sebaceous glands, it means you need to use a solution that fights the bacteria. Now this is where the juice comes in - it contains gibberellins and polysaccharides which are very effective in dealing with bacteria.
When you use the aloe vera plant juice on your skin and you combine it with a diet that helps in lowering your body's natural production of clogging oils, you would succeed in dealing with the oil and bacterial issues that cause pimples.
Astringent - If you are like most folks that have issues with pimples, then you must have bought a skin cleansing astringent from your neighborhood pharmacy previously. The bad rap about these astringents is that they are all alcohol bases and this in most cases causes you skin to dry out which even leads to more skin problems.
As for using the juice actually helps in drying out the pimples and reducing the size of your pores without causing any skin troubles for you.
How To Use Aloe Vera To Fight Acne.
If you are really concerned about dealing with your pimples, then you need to make aloe vera use a part of your daily skin care routine. Just merely applying the juice on your skin a few times would not be enough to wipe away your acne breakouts.
Now that you are aware of this, you have got to buy an aloe vera plant, although you can go for the packaged aloe vera gel or aloe vera juice - it is best you go straight to the source itself (the plant).
When you get the plant, simply cut one of the leaves and use a knife to extract the sap (juice) of the leaf and put in a plastic container. All you need to do is to apply the juice to the areas where the pimples are - this should be done one hour before you go to bed and you should leave it on overnight if you want better results.
This little change to your cleansing regimen can help clear acne breakouts from your skin in a very short period of time - so I advise that you begin using aloe vera acne treatment today.
So what happens to the scars left behind by acne after the aloe vera acne treatment has done its job? This one is a no brainer, all you need to do is to use a scar fading cream like Dermefface FX7 and you would be amazed at how quick it removes your acne scars.
